- What player problem would this solve?
Players would be able to see everything the game has to offer inside and outside caves. The caves are especially dark for some reason. I believe it would also help players with vision problems and/or not having to resort to 3rd party work arounds. - How should it work from a trainer's point of view?
I think it should be an adjustable setting in the video settings in game and be adjustable on the fly so the player can see which setting works best for them. - What trade-offs or edge cases should we consider?
I know a previous demo had a mining lantern that helped immensely inside caves...although if you guys decided to ditch the idea of bringing the lantern back then I know I would at least greatly appreciate something like an adjustable brightness setting. If you guys did bring back the lantern then it would be nice if the base overall brightness in the caves were a smidge brighter compared to now. - Has somebody suggested it already? One of my friends feels uncomfortable when looking at dark areas for a long time.
When we play PokeForce together on a voice call, he often mentions there's no light source or brightness adjustment switch when mining in caves. These brightness options can really help some people. My eyes also get tired after looking at the cave for a long time.

You can buy a lantern at Mining Co. near the entrance of Dark Cave, if it's any remedy

Will report back here if it helps me with my setup :)
Finally got the lantern and to be honest it definitely helps but with the lantern on my character looks "washed out" because the light is so bright against my pasty white skin lol. I do still believe the base darkness with or without a lantern is still too dark as I play with my FOV zoomed out as far as possible and everything far away from my character in the caves are kinda difficult to make out. For example, a rock could look quite identical to a tumblestone/copper/tin node on the ground or the copper/tumblestone nodes embedded in the wall kinda blend in.
TLDR, lantern makes character's & surrounding colors look over saturated and in the dark ore nodes still blend in with the surroundings.
I think a cool idea would be to eventually be able to maybe upgrade the lanterns lit up area or maybe have it work something like a "item finder" when upgraded into a higher tiered lantern?
